Pons: - From our garden, you can see the Donjon at Pons, a fine example of a medieval fortress. Stroll along the river and around the ancient city walls before taking a drink at one of the cafes in the town square. Also close by is the town of Jonzac with its wonderful thermal swimming complex Les Antilles de Jonzac

Saintes: - A beautiful town of narrow streets and medieval houses. Sitting astride the River Charente, there are many Roman remains to be seen, including a vast amphitheatre. The Abbaye-aux-Dames is well worth a visit as is the archaeological museum.

Cognac: - Further upstream on the river Charente, lies Cognac, the home of great producers such as Martell, Camus and Hennessey. Cognac is a beautiful town in its own right, but any visit must include a trip around one of the distilleries to see how the vast wealth of the area was generated. Picture courtesy of O.T.
